Alex Murray

Experience & Activities

Alex who has over twenty years of experience in the financial services industry, spanning consultancy, investment banking, private equity and capital raising is part of the KK Advisors team.

He graduated from Oxford University with an MA in Classics in 1998 and gained an MBA from INSEAD in 2007. Alex has spent the last fourteen years advising sustainable and impactful investment propositions in emerging markets, helping to mobilise over one billion dollars of sustainable development finance from both public and private sector investors.

Alex spent five years working with the European Investment Bank raising private capital for the €222 million global clean energy infrastructure fund-of-funds, GEEREF (www.geeref.com).  He developed for the EIB an impact metric collection and reporting system for the GEEREF portfolio. Alex also led the drafting of the second GEEREF fund’s successful application to the Green Climate Fund for $265 million of concessional finance.

Most recently Alex co-founded Climate Transition Capital which raised $220 million for a special purpose acquisition vehicle (SPAC) listed on the Amsterdam Euronext exchange. This will seek to acquire a leading disruptive European company with the potential to have a profound impact on the global carbon emissions curve.

Alex’s experience in Africa includes working with a variety of climate finance and impact teams, including an East African forestry business with $150 million of plantations; two Sub-Saharan African $200 million clean energy infrastructure funds; one $60 million North African solar funds; one $75 million off-grid energy access fund; a $53 million Ugandan biomass power plant and, currently, a Ugandan community development organisation.
